Our adventure begins in Windhoek with a mix of history, local food and local culture. We headed down to Katutura to enjoy the hustle and bustle of Windhoek’s popular Soweto market. Here you can get anything from the local Mopane worms, to sorghum to the tasty speciality of “kapana” (strips of barbecued meat with plenty of spice). A visit to the Penduka project in Katutura was a heart-warming reminder that Namibians support women’s empowerment and sustainable business. We rounded off the day with lunch at Xwama, where we had a chance to taste practically all the traditional foods of my childhood. Well done to the team for doing it like the locals and eating the marathon chicken, eehanda (traditional spinach) and oshifima using only their hands- a mini adventure in itself!
